I had only started CrossFit 3 months earlier, and I'm pretty sure Gary tricked me into signing up at the time it'll be fun he said!& nbsp; Well 4 Opens later, I'm still a CrossFit tragic and have only missed one Open comp due to a bad knee injury a couple of years ago. It took me 4 years of trying before I actually finished an Open WOD, and it was only last year that I did one WOD as RX (it was RX'd Wall Balls but I'm taking it!). So why do I do it? Well a big part of the Open is not knowing what I'm in for What's the WOD? Can I do it? How should I do it? Scaled or Rx? What's the standards? Will I embarrass myself? And this makes the Open one of the most exciting, exhilarating and frustrating rides I go on each year. I just strap in and hang on! The lead up to the Open always helps me to focus on things I need to work on including my mobility. In the coming weeks, you'll see me in class using a wall ball to squat to target and doing extra mobility exercises during open gym. In last year's Open, I did about 10 more wall balls than I needed to, because Gary kept saying no rep every time I failed to squat below parallel. That might have been the fun bit he was referring to earlier! Best fun for me is going on the ride with my gym buddies. I've done the Open every year with Renee Fagan and I've lost count of the number of times that I have been smashed, short of breath, bending over with hands on knees, & nbsp; just staring at the barbell and thinking I've got nothing left, and she goes 3, 2, 1, pick it up, let's go.
